Welcome to AI Fundamentals. In Trinidad and Tobago, AI is no longer something futuristic that only lives in science fiction films or big overseas labs. It is already in the apps on our phones, the recommendations we get on our screens, the customer service bots we speak to, the fraud attempts that arrive by WhatsApp, and the tools many of us now use at home and at work. This course explains AI in plain, practical language so that anyone—whether you are a parent, a student, a small business owner, a public servant, or a retired grandparent helping to raise the next generation—can understand what AI is, how it works, where it helps, where it can mislead, and how to stay safe. We will explore AI as a useful tool, not magic. We will also explore the risks that matter in a Caribbean context: deepfakes, voice cloning, scam calls, fake investment schemes, misinformation, and privacy problems caused by oversharing. You will learn how to ask better questions, check sources, use AI responsibly, and protect your family with simple habits like a secret codeword and a healthy skepticism mindset. By the end of this course, you should feel more confident using AI, less intimidated by the jargon, and better prepared to spot deception wherever it shows up. This course is written for everyday life in Trinidad and Tobago. We reference local realities such as family WhatsApp groups, traffic on the East-West Corridor, business use in Port of Spain and San Fernando, school assignments, and the importance of trusted local reporting channels. If you remember only one thing, remember this: AI can be useful, but trust must still be earned.
