About this course

Welcome to the Digital Citizenship course. In today’s world, being online is woven into everyday life in Trinidad and Tobago and across the wider Caribbean. We use digital tools to learn, laugh, play games, message family abroad, shop, create music, follow the news, and even do homework. That power comes with responsibility. Digital citizenship is the habit of using technology safely, respectfully, thoughtfully, and in a way that supports our wellbeing and the wellbeing of others. This course is built around the 4Cs framework: Content is what we see, read, hear, and share; Contact is who we connect with and how we protect ourselves; Conduct is how we behave online and the digital footprint we leave behind; and Compulsion is how we manage time, attention, and our relationship with devices. The 4Cs help young people make good decisions in real situations, not just in theory. They also help adults support children and teens in practical, caring ways. As you move through the lessons, notice how each C connects to the others. A false story can spread because of poor content judgement. A stranger can gain trust through contact. Harmful conduct can damage friendships and futures. Overuse of devices can weaken sleep, school performance, and mental health. Strong digital citizenship means balancing all four areas together. Throughout the course, we will use Caribbean examples, local language, and realistic scenarios so the lessons feel familiar and useful. We will also point you toward CyberSafeTT YouTube suggestions where relevant, so you can reinforce what you learn with trusted video resources. By the end of the course, you should be able to pause before you post, verify before you share, protect your privacy, respond wisely to online pressure, and build healthy habits that support school, family, faith, play, and rest. The goal is not to fear technology. The goal is to use it well.

What you'll be able to do

  • Identify reliable and unreliable Content, including misinformation, scams, manipulated media, and persuasive online messaging.
  • Manage Contact by protecting personal information, recognising unsafe interactions, and using privacy, block, and report tools correctly.
  • Practise positive Conduct by communicating respectfully, preventing cyberbullying, respecting copyright, and building a healthy digital footprint.
  • Recognise Compulsion and apply practical strategies to balance screen time, rest, schoolwork, relationships, and physical activity.
  • Apply the 4Cs to everyday situations in Trinidad and Tobago and the wider Caribbean with confidence and common sense.

I used to accept every follow request. After the workshop I locked down my accounts in one evening and finally understood why it mattered.
